harrell williams

Harrell D. Williams, Sr., was born in Marlin, Texas at a time when, according to the US Census, the population of Marlin was 6,918. Harrell graduated high school in 1979. That year he enrolled at Blinn Junior College, then later at Prairie View A&M University. Harrell has been married for over 40 years to a loving wife and the mother of their children. Harrell was born with a knack for creativity. As an adult, he began a career as an aspiring
singer/song writer while living in Bryan, Texas. In 1985, along with his sister Esstine Williams Gude, Harrell co-founded a production and record company in Houston, Texas.

After Esstine passed away, Harrell moved to Austin where he started a band with his friend. His band career lasted for a few years then Harrell dedicated his full attention to co-raising his kids while continuing to create art. People have described Harrell as a man of many talents. Along with song writing, Harrell is an Ob-Ed writer, screen writer/filmmaker, author, inventor and more. Harrell consistently have concerns for world issues, American issues and, most importantly, issues concerning Black Americans.

Harrell’s parents were born in the 1920s. For years, he recorded them telling their life story. Harrell has an interest in Black History and the unspoken, undocumented stories and steps made by people throughout their life. That interest led to this book.

Harrell feels it is God’s intent for him to write books on issues concerning Black America. In recent years black churches have been dealing with what is termed “The Great Falling Away”, a term derived from the fact that many black people do not attend church these days. Harrell has seen many black people on the Internet, on social media sites bash the black church, the black preacher, God and Jesus. Harrell feels these black people are discouraging other black people from attending church. Harrell wrote this book to remind Black America that the Civil Rights we now enjoy is rooted in the black church; that the Civil Rights Advocates we so admire, almost all were a member of a church. And, that many Civil Rights organizations were created within the black church.
